Scots Students Will Receive Funding, Say Scottish Executive
Scottish Government confirms it is to continue funding postgraduate students in Europe.
The Scottish Government released a statement this week pledging continued support for students studying at the College of Europe in Bruges next year.
The announcement follows reports that funding for places at the prestigious school might be scrapped as uncertainty surrounds funding support from other administrations in the UK.
Students at the College can study for a range of masters qualifications, including an MA in European Law, Politics or Economics. The Scottish Government currently offers students that are from Scotland and applying to study a postgraduate course at the College of Europe a grant to cover the costs of tuition and other living expenses.
Last year the Scottish Government funded two students to attend a one year course at the college.
Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, Mike Russell, said:
“The College of Europe is one of the EU's most prestigious graduate schools. That's why I consider it important that the Scottish Government continues to provide support for the very small number of students from Scotland who each year apply to study there.
“This will enable them to access a range of courses in key areas such as European law and economics and continue to enrich their skills and learning."
Northern Ireland’s Department for Employment and Learning also offers an award each year to a small number of postgraduate students enrolled at the College of Europe.
